Spirometry / Respiratory Hubs
Spirometry is a diagnostic test that is completed to confirm if a patient has COPD and/or Asthma. The aim of this project is to establish spirometry hubs to ensure efficient access to quality spirometry, as there has been a gap in delivery identified across NCL.
Key elements of the programme would include:
Provision across Islington with virtual hubs based on a Primary Care Networks or locality footprint, with the ability to offer spirometry in different GP surgeries on different days of the week.
Clinical supervision, advice, and support from the respiratory community team in the Whittington Health NHS Trust, including their specialist nursing team/respiratory consultants.
Ensuring practice-based HCAs, pharmacists and practice nurses are funded to complete the ARTP (Association for Respiratory, Technology & Physiology) accreditation
Respiratory hubs are now active in all 5 PCNs across the borough and have recently introduced spirometry testing for Children and Young People (CYP).
